SAVINGS
Our share accounts are tailored to fit your goals.
What is a Share Account?
A Share Account is the foundation of your VFCU membership. Similar to a savings account, credit unions call it “share” because by having this account, each member owns a share of the Credit Union.
- The minimum balance to open a share is $25; as long as you keep $25 in this account, you will remain a member of VFCU, no matter where you work or live
- Dividends are paid quarterly
- The dividend rate is set by the Board of Directors and is subject to change
- A share account can be used as collateral on VFCU loans
When you open a Share Account, you must choose who will have access to the funds and be accountable for taxes and other ownership responsibilities. The following types of ownership are available:
- An Individual Account is in the name of one individual member of the Credit Union.
- A Joint Account is owned by joint members with the right of survivorship.
- A Payable Upon Death Account will release only to designated beneficiary(s).

What is a Youth Share Account?
You’re never too young to start saving! Our Youth Share Account helps get young people’s finances started on the right foot.
- The minimum balance to open a share is $25; as long as you keep $25 in this account, you will remain a member of VFCU, no matter where you work or live. But your goal is to increase your savings in this account over time.
- Dividends are paid quarterly
- The dividend rate is set by the Board of Directors and is subject to change
- This account automatically converts to an adult account when you turn 18.

What is a Share Certificate?
Certificates of Deposit, also referred to as CDs, are specialized savings accounts that earn a fixed-rate dividend for a fixed period of time. VFCU believes in making your money work for you, so we offer certificates in a variety of terms and at very competitive rates. With low minimum deposits, your investment goals are closer than you know! Here are our Rates. Stop in and see one of our MSRs to get set up, or you can set up a certificate through eBanking by clicking the Services tab, and then selecting the Continue button by Open Subaccount.
How do Certificates work?
CD terms range from 6 months to 60 months. The longer your term, the higher your rate. Most Certificates require a minimum deposit of $500.
How can I maximize my earnings with a CD Strategy?
