Stop Payment Request: How to Prevent Unauthorized Payments

Make a stop payment request to let us know you don’t want to process a specific check or recurring debit payment. Please note, you must make this request before the payment is processed.

How does it work?

First, contact us and provide the following information:

  • The exact check number and amount of the payment.
  • The name of the payee.
  • The reason for the request.

Then, ask about the fee schedule so you know what fees will be charged.

What if the payment is already processed?

If the stop payment request doesn’t work because the payee’s bank has already received it, you still may be able to dispute the charge.

Protect yourself from unauthorized payments:

  • Regularly review your bank statements to identify any unauthorized payments.
  • Be careful about giving out your account information. Only share it with people you trust.
  • Use strong passwords and security questions to protect your account from unauthorized access.
  • Consider setting up alerts to see if any unusual transactions show up on your account.
